7.12.2017 The UN recommends that Norway improve the conditions for women in prison The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has recently recommended that Norway increase its efforts to improve the conditions for women in prison. Several of the conditions mentioned were pointed out by the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s thematic report on women in prison from 2016.
9.11.2017 The Parliamentary Ombudsman: The Klokkergården Collective uses disturbing methods to treat young people with substance abuse and behavioural problems The Klokkergården Collective in Hedmark, which treats young people with substance abuse and behavioural problems, uses disturbing methods, according to a report from the Parliamentary Ombudsman following a visit to the institution in June this year. ‘The pressure put on young people through the collective’s use of involuntary motivational trips is a cause for concern,’ says Parliamentary Ombudsman Aage Thor Falkanger.
24.10.2017 Inadequate documentation threatens due process protection During a visit to the emergency psychiatric unit at Akershus University Hospital in May 2017, the Parliamentary Ombudsman found several examples of poor and incorrect documentation in administrative decisions relating to the use of force. This can make it difficult to understand why force was used and can affect the patients’ due process protection.
