Froland Prison is a high security facility, which opened in 2020. The prison accommodates 200 male inmates. At the time of the visit, the prison had been operational for just over three years. Both inmates and staff, including management, felt the impact of a challenging budget situation and the effects of restructuring and cutbacks that led to a reduction in services, reduced staff presence, and increased lock-in times.
